President Bonita Williams

My name is Bonita J. Williams and my son Braylon is in second grade at Galway. This is my first year as the President of the Galway Lions Parent Teacher Association (PTA) and my third year as a Galway Lions PTA member. Previously, I served as the Vice President of Fundraising and the Special Education Chair. I am excited about the role that the PTA will play in engaging and enhancing the lives of our students and families this year.

I have two kids at Galway ES this year: My daughter Maila is in 3rd grade and my son Ayden started kindergarten.  We have been part of Galway ES since 2016 when Maila started kindergarten and I have been a PTA member ever since.  We did not know anyone when we started school, but that has changed! It has been fun to get to know other parents, kids, and the school’s staff through the PTA and I sure hope you will join us as well.  It is a great school with wonderful, caring teachers, so it is important as parents to support them as much as we can.

If I’m not volunteering or helping out at the elementary school, I am teaching myself.  I’m a preschool teacher at Silver Spring Day School and help 2-year-olds with their very first school experience.  It is fun to see them grow and eventually go off to elementary school themselves.

Whenever the little ones “graduate” preschool, I hope that they will be welcomed in a school just like Galway: a warm, caring environment that respects every child for being themselves and brings out their best potential.

Looking forward to a great school and PTA year 2019-2020 with the awesome PTA board and all of Galway’s wonderful families!

This is our Family’s third year with Galway. Hannah Williams (my granddaughter) is in third grade and her younger sister Norah is in first grade. Hannah and Norah have a younger sister Sarah, who is three and does not understand why she can’t go to Galway with her sisters yet. Sarah is ready – she packs her backpack every day and says she is going to school so look out Galway when she turns five. I have been a regular volunteer of past PTA events.  My day job is working for a Government contractor as a Project Manager for an FAA contract. In addition to volunteering with the PTA I also support the English as Second Language (ESL) ministry at my church.  I have a heart for helping my community and want to see all of our children grow to be responsible and be the best they can.  Please join us and make this a great year for all of the Galway community.

This year will be the fourth year that my daughter, Abena and I will have been at Galway. Abena is in 3 rd grade and is super excited to be starting school. I have lived in the neighborhood for about 12 years. I am a Pharmacist at CVS/Pharmacy. I have enjoyed volunteering in the classroom and at other Galway/PTA events in the previous years. This will be my first time serving on the PTA and I am looking forward it. I am thrilled to be supporting the Galway Community in whatever way I can.

Treasurer Ashley Derr

I am mom to 2nd grader Sebastian and his two younger sisters, Louisa (age 4) and Francine (age 1), who already can't wait to be Galway Lions like their big brother! This is our third year as a Galway family and we have lived in Calverton for 9 years. I have been an active member of the PTA for the past two years, serving as Membership Chair last year. I am excited to serve as your PTA Treasurer during the 2019-2020 school year. In addition to my mom duties I am the owner and director of Creativity First, a company that provides after-school and school-day enrichment classes for children throughout our region. You can also find me teaching Stroller Strides classes for Fit4Mom Montgomery County.
